The MAC Space

Under current COVID restrictions can accommodate 45 people.

This versatile space can be hired for artists’ professional development, workshops, classes, meetings, and public programs.

Gallery and Art Shop

The MAC Gallery is open to the public from 10am to 4pm every week of the year except between Christmas and New Year, and is managed by Surf Coast Art Space Inc. (SCAS).

The Gallery is available for local and regional visual artists to present their work, in any discipline, year around.  It is equipped with fixed and moveable hanging walls, plinths, and flexible gallery lighting. Up to four concurrent exhibitions/installations/performances can be staged at one time.

If you are interested in presenting your work in the MAC Gallery, you are invited to submit an Expression of Interest to SCAS Inc.  There will be two call-outs for EOI’s each year, for more information head to the SCAS website.

Local Art Shop:

The Local Art Shop  is open 10am to 4pm Thursday to Sunday.

Expressions of Interest for stocking your small local hand-made items will be sent out via Surf Coast Art Space social media and mailing list.  If you would like to receive notifications, subscribe on our website.

Theatre Space

The generously proportioned performance space at the MAC is known as Shoestring Playhouse. It can be set up in various configurations for theatre, music, comedy, literature, dance, cinema, meetings and social events.

Shoestring Theatre at the MAC comprises a generous performance facility with a flexible stage and seating area, banks of retractable seating and a flexible lighting system. Theatre bookings are managed by Torquay Theatre Troupe Management Group.

The space can be configured in many ways:

  • To provide intimate black box productions, theatre in the round, and proscenium theatre
  • For social events requiring tables and chairs
  • For a variety of artistic performances – such as theatre, music, comedy, literature, and dance.
  • As a space for workshops/lectures/panels across all disciplines.
  • To show cinema and screen-based artwork.
